Lions are known as apex predators , but the Kubu Boys of the Okavango Delta take it to a whole new level.
This is one of the males from the Kubu Boys, a coalition of three lions born in the northern Delta who have mastered this extraordinary skill of hunting hippos.
Fittingly, “Kubu” means hippo in Setswana , a nod to their preferred prey and the unique behavior they inherited from their parents. It’s a rare example of learned hunting strategy among big cats.
Stories like these remind us why Botswana remains one of Africa’s most fascinating wildlife destinations.
